Humana people – Rah

Humana people – Raisa alias Rah is a certified fashionista. Read for yourself how 😊

Could you introduce yourself in few words.  And maybe few things about how you are connected to Estonia.

My name is Raisa but I go by Rah on the internet since the dial up times. I`m from Recife, Brazil and have a bachelor`s in Design but at the moment work in Finance. I moved to Estonia in April 2019 with my husband (also Brazilian) and completely fell in love with the country.

Moving from Brazil to Estonia is a pretty dramatic wardrobe shift. What had to change and what stayed the same?

What stayed the same was my preference for comfortable clothes and lots of skirts. But the biggest change is that now I have a large number of coats, sweaters and tights that would be impossible for me to use in Recife without getting a heatstroke. And since I love layering clothes, moving to Estonia gave me the opportunity to play more with my style.

What is your relationship with clothes?

I grew up loving fashion and always saw clothes as a form of self expression. But I was raised in a lower middle class family in the 90`s, so new clothes were a luxury that we just got on birthdays or Christmas time or if we grew up on the older ones. And because of that I learned early to take care of my clothes and be conscious of the materials they are made. During university I studied Design, with a specialization in Fashion Design, since I`m fascinated by History and how clothes change with the evolution of human societies.

Do you remember your first time thrifting or going to Humana?

Yes! My first time in Humana was in the Kaubamaja’s store on my second day in Tallinn so I could buy coats and sweaters since the Spring weather here is colder than Winter time in the city I grew up in. But my favorite Humana store is the Vintage one in Tartu mnt.

Your style in three words

Comfortable, dark and casual.

What is your best find you have found at a second-hand store?

My best find was a 90’s style black real leather jacket that I found in Humana Vintage. It’s one of my favorite pieces!

What do you usually look for first when you walk into a second-hand store like Humana?

Normally when I go thrifting I already have a few specific pieces that I want in mind, so I began looking in the sessions that those pieces could be and after that I look at the whole store to see if I find anything that caught my eye.

First thing that I look at is the composition of the clothes, I prefer 100% natural textiles so composition is very important for me. If I`m looking for pants, dresses or skirts the second thing that I look for is if they have real pockets.

What is your favourite way to make a simple outfit more interesting?

I love mixing different accessories (especially a statement earring), jackets and shoes that make an impact. I also love to customize my bags with pins, buttons and lots of keychains.

We know you are a huge reader and books fan. Do books ever influence what you wear?

Sometimes. Some days I plan my outfits to match the cover of the book that I am reading on that day or I take inspiration from some book characters that I like. I was a big fan of Disneybounding (dressing like a real life Disney character) in the Tumbler era.

What clothes or details in your wardrobe you keep coming back to?

I`m a big fan of T-Shirts (especially graphic Tees) since they are comfy and can be used on several different occasions. I also love shoes and adore shoes that have different and innovative designs (normally described as ugly by the majority). Because of that most of the time my outfits are a simple combo of t-shirt and jeans/skirt and some “out of the box” shoes.
